CASE HISTORIES
Case History 1
Edmonton Alberta Refinery Repairs
500 psi/465oF Line Without a Shut Down
At a petroleum refinery in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, an inoperable valve in a 4" line carrying high octane gasoline operating at 500 psi and 465oF threatened a unit shutdown because process temperatures couldn't be maintained. A PLIDCO® Shear + Plug installed upstream of the faulty valve is being utilized as an insertable gate valve to control process conditions until the next scheduled turnaround in 2009.
Case History 2
Pump for Water Feed to Continuous Casting Line
Threatens Plant Shut Down
At a large steel mill in Cleveland, Ohio, a 6" 1400 psi boiler feed water line sending cooling water to the continuous caster process was in need of pump repair. The backup pump was questionable as to its ability to run for an extended period of time. Valving to the main pump was not holding back enough back pressure to allow the pump to be rebuilt. The solution was to use the PLIDCO® Shear + Plug to isolate the pump and the bad valve. Once isolated, the pump was rebuilt and the valve replaced. Upon completion, the line was pressurized and leaks in the weld were discovered. The Shear + Plug re-plugged the line so these could be repaired. Due to space requirements the PLIDCO® Shear + Plug was the only option as competitive solutions were not able to fit in the area.
Case History 3
Shear + Plug Helps to Repair 2200 PSI Pipeline System
A polyethylene plant in Dunkirk France had a situation involving a 2200 psi
boiler feed line operating at 300oF. The PLIDCO® Shear +
Plug isolated the system so the problem areas could be replaced. Once complete,
the Shear + Plug was used as a test valve to test the system prior to it
being brought back into operation.
Case History 4
Texas Chemical Plant Calls On PLIDCO®
to Plug Line Where Competitive System Failed
A large petrochemical plant in Beaumont, Texas had tried unsuccessfully to plug a superheated steam line using a competitor's product. A PLIDCO® Shear + Plug, providing a positive metal-to-metal seal, isolated the line just 2 feet upstream of the competitors unit. The Shear + Plug enabled repairs to be safely completed, thus avoiding a costly system shutdown.
Case History 5
PLIDCO® Keeps Canton, Ohio Refinery Up and Running
A petroleum refinery in Canton, Ohio had a 16" H2S line where the actuator shaft on a wafer valve was broken off. Rather than shutdown the extraction unit, a PLIDCO® Shear + Plug safely isolated the system so the broken valve could be replaced. All without H2S release or costly system shutdown.
